Miss Quincy & The Showdown Do Tracks Pub

I don’t know how many nights I’ve spent at Tracks Pub in Olds, AB … But more often than not it all ends in 3am table-top dance parties, inventing new interpretive dance fueled drinking games like Beer Pass, or one of the band members’ moms having to come pick us up in her pajamas late night high school style because none of us are fit to drive.

Portrait of an Ass Kicking Girl Band

I’m not going to lie, I was worried about touring with an all-girl band.

However, it turns out I’m traveling with perhaps the most low maintenance group of ovaries ever to assemble into band formation … And it’s a kick-ass band at that.

Let’s take a closer look …

(Disclaimer: Don’t go getting any ideas in your head that we end every night in hotel rooms, hair soaked with all-night dance party sweat, and money bursting right out the cleavage … Only in Alberta boys and girls.)

Making Hot Sweet Noise at Tracks Pub

The centerpiece of this epic Albertan weekend was without a doubt the funtastic show at Tracks Pub in Olds, AB. The night featured the kick-ass smoke-machine debut of Calgary’s Hot Sweet Noise, the left-handed Tyler Toews (of Miss Quincy) inconspicuously (and amazingly!) rocking an entire show with an upside down right-handed guitar (after his own lone guitar kicked the bucket between sound-check & showtime), and a post-show bar-wide fancy-free table-top dance party that went long past closing.

Watch out for the left-handed Tyler Toews rockin’ an upside down right-handed guitar like there’s no tomorrow.

The Rocky Fortune Reunion

Look at that audience … the way they’re singing their brains out and grinning their faces sore and creaming their pants right off you would think they’re at a Beatles, Stones, or perhaps Backstreet Boys concert. You’d be wrong though,  because they’re at The Rocky Fortune reunion concert at Tracks Pub in Olds, Alberta on August 7, 2010.

“This is the best  night of my life” and “It’s really a shame they broke up” are both sentiments I heard echoed throughout the pub and although you can’t see my face because of being behind the camera and all, I was also completely blown wide open by this show.

Kudos Rocky Fortune and welcome to the Greatest Shows of the Summer section of my brain vaults.

Brin’s New Beau: Or, How to Make Love Stay

Tom Robbins wrote that there is only one serious question. And that question is: “Who knows how to make love stay?” He has all sorts of advice on the matter. For example, wake love up in the middle of the night. Tell it the world is on fire. Dash to the bedroom window and pee out of it. Casually return to bed and assure love that everything is going to be all right. Fall asleep. Love will be there in the morning.

I think Mr. Brin Porter has stumbled onto another method – shack up with a smokin’ hot 2D cartoon who shares your passion for playing upright bass.
